The balance of power in international politics has undergone profound shifts in recent history as a result of a variety of factors. Consequently, in the realm of global politics, power dynamics have evolved significantly over time. The bipolar international order prevailed throughout the time of the Cold War and was led by the United States of America and the Soviet Union. This has resulted in the establishment of a multipolar system in which a variety of players exert influence on the international arena. This article examines the role that the USSR, and later Russia, had in the formation of multipolar politics, with a particular emphasis on their relationship with Africa. In addition to this, it examines the concept of political hegemony as well as the efforts made by the United States to create a unipolar world.
